Posted: Wed, 28 Apr 2021 12:30
With lockdown restrictions continuing to ease in line with the Government roadmap, many forms of sport and physical activity have now returned.
To help make this experience as attractive and enjoyable as possible for participants, Sport England have highlighted 'five simple ways you can help people return to sport and physical activity'.
These tips, based on recent insights around attitudes, intentions and feelings about getting back into activity, can help sports clubs and other providers consider how to make the best of their return to activity and include:
- Showcasing your safety measures
- Emphasising the enjoyment factor
- Showing the benefits, not telling the benefits
- How to ease people back in
- Focus on keeping it cheap or free
To view these tips in full, visit the Sport England Return to Play page, where you can also check for information on current restrictions and explore the detailed return to play insights.

Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport – Updated Coronavirus Statement
After reviewing the government advice issued on 16 March 2020, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport has made the decision to cancel activities it is responsible for delivering for the next six weeks.
The health and safety of our participants, volunteers, instructors and wider sporting community is our main priority and to avoid the spread of Coronavirus we will follow the government advice to move away from organising mass gatherings and for the public to avoid all non-essential contact.
This means cancelling forthcoming school sport competitions, workplace health programmes and other events for the next six weeks. LRS is aware of the rapidly changing environment and will keep this decision under constant review as we continue monitor the latest advice from government and Public Health England.
Finally, please continue to follow the government's guidance on how to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, by reviewing the advice provided here

Nominate your BBC Unsung Hero now
Posted: Fri, 11 Oct 2019 19:00
This year the BBC have joined with Made By Sport to recognise the power of sport to change lives and build better futures. They are celebrating the people and projects that are really making an impact, and need your help to find them.
All over the UK sport brings communities together, and they want you to tell them about your community's unsung hero. You can send in their story by video or write to the BBC via the nomination form. If you need some inspiration, check out the video and text examples on their website.
You can also send in your nomination via email. Just download the form on this link and send it to unsunghero@bbc.co.uk.
When can I nominate someone?
Send the BBC your nominations for this year's award between 17 September and 20 October 2019.
How is the award decided?
Your nominations are entered into a local award for your BBC nation or region. After a panel discussion, the local winners are announced in each of the 15 regions.
The 15 winners then go to a national panel, of current and former sports stars and people active in sports volunteering. They reach their decision, with the winner being announced live on television at the Sports Personality of the Year Awards on 15 December.
To find out more about the awards terms and conditions click here.
Sound good? Then start off by nominating your unsung hero today.
